Mary Kaonang passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026, at the age of 92, Born in Gorontalo, Indonesia, on April 19, 1934, she immigrated to the United States in 1982 and made her home in Houston, Texas, where she lived for the rest of her life.
Mary was a woman of deep and unwavering faith. Her love for God shaped every part of her life and gave her strength through both joy and hardship. She was calm, patient, and gentle, bringing a sense of peace to those around her. Rather than seeking attention, Mary led quietly by example, showing her faith through her kindness, perseverance, and care for others.
Sharing the Gospel was one of the great callings of Mary’s life. She ministered in hospitals, prisons, and orphanages, distributed Gospel tracts, and delivered sermons wherever she had the opportunity. She was especially passionate about speaking of the end times and the hope of Christ’s return. Through her service, she offered encouragement to people in difficult circumstances and faithfully shared the message that meant so much to her.
To her family, Mary was a steady and loving presence. She is survived by her husband, dr. Simon Kaonang; her daughter, Susan, and Susan’s husband, Budi Wong; and her grandchildren, Samuel Wong and Kristina Wong. They will remember her for her patience, peaceful spirit, steadfast prayers, and the quiet strength with which she cared for those she loved. Her life gave them a lasting example of how to live with humility, compassion, and trust in God.
Mary will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Though she is no longer with them, the love she gave, the faith she shared, and the example she lived will remain a lasting part of their lives. Her memory will be cherished forever, and her legacy of service and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
