Mary attended Incarnate Word Academy She was employed at Oshman’s Sporting Goods, where she modeled western wear, and sold sporting goods. In 1950, she married the love of her life, William Alfred “Bill” Scotton, who preceded her in death in 1995, after 45 years of marriage. During those 45 years, they lived in Houston, TX, where Bill served as a Houston Police Officer, and Mary became a homemaker and mother to their five children. In 1965, they moved their family to Missouri City. Mary immersed herself in her kids’ school activities, serving as room mother and campus volunteer at E.A. Jones Elementary, even after her youngest had moved on to Dulles Jr. High. She was known by all for her generous and giving heart.
Mary loved growing and arranging flowers, roller skating, gardening and taking her children to AstroWorld. Later in life, she enjoyed antiquing to the point of operating shops in several co-ops. Mary also began collecting dolls, dishes, Roseville pottery, and honestly, there was not much she did not collect.
Mary lived life to the fullest, never meeting a stranger and never passing up the opportunity to tell a good joke. She had a love for all things leopard print, a good yard sale, Blue Bell ice cream, and “hub cap” sized earrings, but nothing could rival her love and commitment for her family. She and Bill hosted numerous holiday events in their home, helped organize family reunions, and enjoyed time on the Frio River in Concan, Texas.
Mary resided at Colonial Oaks for the last three years where she enjoyed numerous activities: bingo, exercise class, Scrabble, gambling trips and the many holiday events. We would like to thank all the caregivers, nurses and staff for their kind and loving attention bestowed upon our mother.
She is survived by her brother, John Carr McClenny; her children Patti Ragsdale and husband Roy, Terri Klotz and husband Norbert, Marilyn Dumas and husband Philip, Kimberly Crowley and husband David, and William Alfred “Chip” Scotton Jr. and wife Brandye; 12 grandchildren: Kelly Novikoff (Lee), Scott Ragsdale (Erin), Shelley Richard (Patrick), Jason Klotz (Wendy), Nathan Dumas (Candice), Brooke Tullos (Kevin), Chase Dumas (Lendsey), Rachel Schmelzle (Andy), Courtney Crowley, Kaitlin Crowley, Zac Scotton (Lauren), and Sydney Scotton, 14 great-grand children: Denton Poss, Piper Poss, Lindsay Novikoff, Cristina Novikoff, Aiden Ragsdale, Riley Ragsdale, Rowan Richard, Ava Richard, Reagan Klotz, Vaughn Klotz, Ellie Tullos, Brady Tullos, Noah Dumas, Brooklyn Scotton , and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
