She was born in St. Louis, MO to Jacob and Mary Peil. She attended St. Elizabeth’s Academy and the St. Louis Business College and landed a position with the Prather Advertising Agency in St. Louis as their Chief Accountant.
In January 1949, Mary resigned from Prather and changed careers to Motherhood and Home Management when she married Walter D. Naughton at St. Gabriel Church in St. Louis. Mary’s support for Walter’s 33 year career with Shell Oil Company propelled them through nine different relocations from Central Illinois, north to Minnesota and from coast to coast thereafter. With Walter often away on the job, Mary was the ever loving and efficient home builder, quickly transforming a new and strange place to a secure and loving home for her husband and children. She handled her responsibilities with grace and with a bountiful love and never failing devotion.
Their final move brought them to Houston TX in 1970 and, eventually the immediate family all settled near by.
Mary’s loving heart and volunteer spirit would serve the community for many years, first with the St. Joseph Hospital Auxilliary and then with Memorial Assistance Ministries. She also served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Cecilia Catholic Church for many years.
Mary felt blessed to enjoy a beautiful and loving 63 years together with her beloved husband Walter and family. We will miss her greatly, but keep her in our hearts forever.
Mary is survived by her loving husband Walter, her sisters Irene Naughton and Gerry Wuest, her sister-in-law’s Jane Fuerst and Virginia Peil, her son Jim and wife Marcie, granddaughter Jessica and husband Matt and great grandchild Skyler, her son Jack and wife Mary, her daughter Joan and husband Gary, her grandchildren Kelly, Holli and Jennifer and respective spouses Michael, Windell and Barry, and greatgrandchildren Brittani, Blake, Ashley, Cameron, Alexis, Hunter, Alyssa, Addyson and Maggie Rose, and many loving nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
May God Bless our beautiful wife and mother, great and grand in all ways and may God Bless all who read this short history of a wonderful life.
