

Chertie was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on May 22, 1935 to Dr. Reed Miller Nesbit and Mabel Wilkins Nesbit. She grew up in Ann Arbor and, after attending Chatham Hall college preparatory school in Virginia, attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she graduated in 1957 with a B.A. in business administration. After graduation, Chertie worked for RR Donnelley & Sons in Chicago until her marriage in 1958.
While in college, Chertie studied for one year at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, where she met Dr. Edward Razim. Chertie and Edward married on June 14, 1958 and made their home in Riverside, Illinois until 1992 and then in Oak Brook and LaGrange Park, Illinois until his death in 2011. Chertie moved to Houston in 2014 to be closer to her son, Edward Razim III, and his family.
Chertie, who in the late 1970s completed the full cooking curriculum at Dumas Père L`Ecole de la Cuisine Française in Glenview, Illinois, was an exceptionally accomplished cook. She was also a master knitter who travelled extensively to knitting conventions and created masterpieces for family members and friends. She loved reading, football, and seeing other countries and cultures. During her lifetime she and Edward visited every continent except Antarctica.
Chertie Razim is survived by her four children, Mary Anne Razim-FitzSimons (John), Sarah Razim McDonough, Nancy Razim, and Edward Razim III (The Rev. Genevieve), eight grandchildren, and her sisters Nancy Nesbit Crummey (Robert) and Mabelan Correa (Roy). A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Ave Houston, Texas 77002.
