Mary C. Slade, 88, beloved wife and mother passed away Sept. 30, 2010 surround by family. She was born April 8, 1922 in N. Chicago, Il to George Carr and Anna Markulin Carr. She was a 1943 graduate of Cook County School of Nursing in Chicago. She worked as a registered nurse in Chicago and served at Veterans’ Administration hospitals in Gulfport, Miss, Dallas and Houston. She retired in 1984 from the Houston VA. She had great compassion and gratitude for all the veterans and their sacrifices. Her life of love, care and devotion are the greatest gifts to her family. She believed that to whom many gifts and blessings are given much is expected. Mary loved gardens, yellow roses and Texas wild flowers. She is preceded in death by her husband Toxie Slade, her parents, and her brothers, Steve and Anton. Mary is survived by her daughter, Neelie Slade; son, Steven Slade; sister-in-law Betty Carr; many nieces and nephews and her beloved cats. Services will be held Mon, Oct. 4 at Forest Park Westheimer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Houston Humane Society.
