Mrs. Mary V. "Ginger" Lyons

April 10, 1944August 17, 2014

It is with great sadness that the family of Ginger Lyons announces her passing on Sunday, the 17th of August 2014, in Houston, Texas. Ginger, who never met a stranger and was always remembered by everyone for her outgoing and friendly nature, and her brilliantly shiny red hair, shared 49 years of marriage with her devoted husband, Gregory W. Lyons. Ginger was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on the 10th of April 1944. She raised four marvelous and loving children. Her oldest daughter, Kathryn E. Lyons, preceded Ginger in death in 1985. They are now together in Heaven. Ginger was the co-founder and primary force behind the creation of the companies that she owned and operated, Chempak International, KL-Chempak and Chempak Transport Services. Her family assisted in this effort, but she was the guiding light. She became active in the family business in 1985 and played a major role in the accounting and production departments. In recent years, she had continued as Chairman, but also spent as much time as possible with her grandchildren, who were her greatest joy. Ginger was actively involved in the support of a charitable scholarship fund at St. Bernard Prep School in Coleman, Alabama. She was also active with St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and was a strong advocate for the Wounded Warrior Project. She enjoyed her time at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and with the Catholic Charities organization. She is survived by her husband Gregory W. Lyons of Houston, Texas; her children, Mary V. Lyons Baud and her husband Eric, Gregory J. Lyons, both of Houston, Jennifer A. Lyons Dash and her husband Harmon of New Orleans, Louisiana; her brother John E. O’Brien and wife Linda, also of Houston; her grandchildren, Cami and Andy Baud and Will Lyons, all of Houston, Texas. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock this afternoon until eight o’clock this evening, Wednesday, the 20th of August, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway in Houston, where a vigil prayer service is to commence at seven o’clock. A funeral mass is to be offered at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 21st of August, also at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where Msgr. William L. Young, Pastor, is to celebrate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the nearby parish hall. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Ginger’s name be directed to the American Cancer Society, 6301 Richmond Ave., Houston, TX, 77057, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105, Source Code:IIQ140899502; or to the St. Vincent de Paul School Fund, 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX, 77025. Ginger will be greatly missed by her family and friend’s whose lives she has touched deeply.

She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. She extends her hands to the poor, yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. Strength and Honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed ;her husband also, and he praises her. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. We love you very much, and always will love you, and you will dwell in our hearts forever.

One of the greatest ladies I have ever known. Love of her family and friends was only one of her many attributes. Heaven gained another angel and while we lost Ginger in life, we know she is watching over us all. May God bless and watch over the Lyons family during their time of grief and loss.

My condolences to the Lyons Family during this time of sadness. I hope that you will find some comfort in knowing that although God whom resides in high and holy place, is with "those crushed and lowly in spirit...." (Isaiah 57:15)
