Maryn S Claypool (Marti to her college friends), age 85, passed away on March 30, 2023 in Houston, Texas. Maryn is survived by her husband, John (Jack); her three children—John Claypool (wife Patti Claypool), Laurie Claypool, and Linda Galow (husband Brian Galow); and her granddaughter Grace Claypool (daughter of John and Patti). She was greeted in heaven by many friends and loved ones including her parents (Anna and Mark Starr); her grandparents (Lillian and Foster Benfer); and her Aunt Benny (Eleanor Lohman).
She was born in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania and graduated with honors from Penn State University where she met her husband, John. Maryn and John lived in several cities in western and central New York State and Pennsylvania eventually settling in Houston for their golden years. The place they thought of as home was always Chautauqua County (Jamestown/Ashville) in western New York where John was the Director of Public Works in the seventies and early eighties. They returned there as snow birds and spent many happy summers reconnecting with long-time friends. She dealt with several serious illnesses with determination to stay as long as possible with her husband and family. She loved them fiercely.
Maryn also loved her role as a wife, mother and homemaker. Her Red Cake was a hit at every holiday gathering long before Red Velvet Cake became the rage. She loved spending time with her family and friends, preparing holiday gatherings, baking and cooking, boating on Chautauqua Lake and reading good murder mysteries.
A funeral service for Maryn will be held Tuesday, April 11 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home-Cypress Cr, 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77095.
