Mat is and will continue to be missed by all. His contagious smile and generous spirit will always be remembered. I'd seen him over the years during Festival Chicano but knew him then as Sammy's little brother. Over the past 7 or 8 years, he like Sammy, became a good friend. During the run of the show he would make sure that I had the barbacoa that I loved from his favorite spot. He would bring pecans whenever there was a good year, and pop by the theatre all year long, just to say hello and bring us treats.

I know from the love I witnessed between Mat and Sammy that he has a good and loving family and I wish you all peace. I hope you find joy in your memories of your beloved Mat. I'm sure there are many because he lived his life to the fullest and found absolute joy in his family, friends and simple pleasures. Matthew Vera Hernandez......what a man and what a life.
