Mattie Lee Mc Daniels

Mattie L. McDaniels was born in the historic 4th Ward in Houston, TX on February 10, 1937 to Verna Bell and Sam Jones (who preceded her in death). She attended Booker T. Washington High School. Mattie later relocated to Menlo Park, CA in 1954. She remained in the San Francisco Bay Area for the next 26 years. She was reunited with and married her sweetheart Shedrick McDaniels Jr. Together they had 4 children, Shedrick Alvin McDaniels, Christopher McDaniels, Vera McDaniels-Madison and Vivian McDaniels.

After returning to Houston in 1980, Mattie was employed at Texas Southern University Department of Public Safety where she retired in 2000 with the rank of Sergeant. She enjoyed puzzles, word games, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a proud member of the NAACP and a supporter of several charities including St. Jude Foundation for Children and the Unity Church.

Mattie is survived by Shedrick McDaniels Jr. (husband), Mary Cummings (sister), Jimmy Jones (brother), Shanee McDaniels-Randall, Olivia Madison, Raphael Harrell, Taylor McDaniels, Christopher Madison, Matthew McDaniels, Christian Cole McDaniels, Allowyne Madison and Matthew Chevis (grandchildren), Damien Randall, Daina Randall and Troy McDaniels (great grandchildren), and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by J.C. Jones, Alex Jones (brothers) and Vera Franklin (sister).
