Maurine Grace Youree Leggett passed away in Houston Texas on September 13, 2019. She was born in Brownfield, Texas, on April 4, 1934 to Frederick and Christine Owens Youree. When she was 13, her family moved from Lubbock, Texas to Crowell, Texas.
Maurine’s childhood was spent as a member of the Crowell Methodist Church, enjoying the MYF activities and summer camps. She was a cheerleader for the CHS Wildcat teams, an actress in a first place award winning play at the Texas Interscholastic contests in Austin in addition to other honors.
After Maurine graduated from Crowell High School in 1952 she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri until 1954, and then transferred to University of Texas in Austin. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. The summer of 1954 Maurine met Robert (Bob) Leggett of Harlingen, Texas, and they were married in 1955 in the Panama Canal Zone where Bob was serving in the US Army.
After his discharge Bob began his career working at Tenneco Oil Company until his retirement. They lived in Brownfield, Texas and were transferred to Cochabamba, Bolivia where their first son, Michael, was born.
After moves to Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lafayette, Louisiana, and Midland they returned to Houston where their second son, Richard, was born. She was an active member of the Memorial Church of Christ in Houston for 50 years. Maurine and Bob sponsored the Young Married class for many years, influencing their lives.
Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Frederick Youree; husband, Bob; sons, Michael and Richard. She is survived by three beloved grandchildren, Emily, Annie Rose and Ryan Leggett, and their mother, Susanne Leggett, all of Austin. Her nieces Gail Leggett Brown and husband Lynn and Sandra Leggett Munselle.
