Max grew up in San Antonio, Texas. He started work at a young age and began working as a caddie. This led to his discovery for his first love of Golf. He left San Antonio at the age of 16 to venture to the Big City of Houston, Texas. There he started in the restaurant business through the 60’s and had a son and daughter (Stephen and Camille) with his first wife. He later met a beautiful, faithful woman who would stick by his side for years to come. Max and Alice married July 16, 1972, and were married for 50 ½ years. They had two children together (Claudine & Emilio). Max was in the car business at this point and would remain a Car Salesman until his retirement. Max had charm, a sharp dresser, great smile and a sense of humor, which allowed him to be successful as a salesman and communicating with others.
His greatest passion was Golf and any free time he had you could find him on the course. As a family we enjoyed spending summers in the pool at Willowisp or Quail Valley Country Club. Our vacations were to golf resorts for his tournaments which always ended up being really fun. Every 4th of July was spent at Columbia Lakes (Golf of course) and the kids would run around, swim and learn how to drive on the golf carts. Max enjoyed retirement by playing golf at Jersey Meadow country club, he helped his married children out with handy man work at their houses, he absolutely loved all his grand-daughters and spending any time he could with them.
He was diagnosed with Dementia in 2014, his mental decline slowly robbed him of these activities. Max was always smiling, joking around, dressed in the best clothes & shoes. He lived a great life and will truly be missed but we are assured that we will see him again one day!
He is preceded in death by his parents Macedonio Cabrera and Santos Sylva. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alice Leal Cabrera, his daughter and son-in-law; Claudine and Mario (Bubba) Tamez, his grand-children; Isabella and Marcella, his son and daughter-in-law; Emilio & Flor Cabrera, grand-children; Giselle, Ilana and Ethan, his son; Stephen Cabrera, his daughter; Camille Cabrera, grand-children; Amber, Alyssa and Ryan, his sisters; Irma Macias & Lupe Velasquez
