

She was born on the 3rd of September 1926 in Corrigan, Texas, and moved to Houston at the age of eight. She graduated from Lamar High School and attended college at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. After college she went to work for oilman and philanthropist, Mr. Wesley West. In 1953 she met and married the love of her life, Talmadge Lamar Watts, Sr. Maxine dedicated her life thereafter to caring for and nurturing her adoring family. She was a faithful servant of God, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Houston for more than 60 years, and an active volunteer.
Maxine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Talmadge Lamar Watts, Sr.; mother and father, Winnie Burr and Dr. Harry Burr; and aunt, Lucille Manry. She is survived by her son, Talmadge Lamar Watts, Jr and wife Carolyn; daughter, Joan Sawyer Hargrove; and son-in-law, William Temple Hargrove. Grandchildren, Tyler Watts; Meredith Sawyer Mejia and husband David, John Paul Sawyer, Marla Sawyer Diliberto and husband Tim; and great grandson, Liam Mejia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank longtime caregivers, Monica Garcia and Myriam Valencia, as well as the staff of Memorial Clinical Associates.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 24th of October, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The funeral service is to be conducted at half-past ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 25th of October, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where Dr. Bill Heston, Executive Pastor at First Presbyterian, is to officiate.
The interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
