

Melvin Harold Roland gained his wings on October 12, 2025 at the age of 89. He was surrounded by family and friends at home when he went to see Jesus. He was born December 6, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa to George and Coyla Roland. He resided in California with his family before moving to Tomball, Texas when he was young. He started working on a dairy farm when he was young. When he was in high school he would transport bulls from the dairy farm to the Friday night rodeo in Cypress. He started hauling milk at that time also. He joined the Army his senior year in high school. He served 4 years in the army and completed his training in Fort Benning Georgia before being deployed to Germany and earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a Forward Observer for artillery with top secret clearance. After being discharged from the military, he returned home to Tomball, Tx where he met his wife. They were married May 16, 1959 in Tomball, Tx. He went to San Jacinto high school to finish his high school senior year but received his high school diploma from Tomball high school. He then attended Jr. college for 2 years and then attended the University of Houston for 1½ years for accounting. He had a successful career with Texas Eastern Pipeline from 1963 until he retired in 1989. He started in accounting and then moved to dispatching. He enjoyed bowling with the company league for several years. He started raising cattle after they moved to the Jersey Village area and continued when they moved to Hempstead, Tx. He was involved in FFA with his children and continued with his cows in Hempstead and their place in Cameron, Tx. He loved time he spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Weirich Roland. His children: Susan Roland Ogg and husband Marty Ogg, Melvin Roland Jr and Gregory Lynn Roland. Honorary Daughter Laura Meyer and husband Chad and their children Cole, Caleb and Landry. Grandchildren: Christopher Ogg and wife Brittany, Michael Ogg and wife Anna Kate and Nicholas Ogg and wife Darby. Great grandchildren: Harper, Piper and Holland. Sister Diane Lafoy and husband Tim.
Preceded in death by father George Harold Roland and mother Coyla Hines Roland, Brother Terry Roland and wife Leona. Sisters Trudy Wilkerson and husband Johnny and Colleen Cross.
He was loved by his family and numerous friends and will be missed.
Reception Monday 1:45pm after the interment, at The Church at Jersey Village.
