OBITUARY

Mercedes Moreno

December 14, 1934February 18, 2021

Mercedes Moreno, 86, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 18, 2021. Mercedes was born in Monterrey, Mexico December 14, 1934 to parents Jesus Puente Cortez and Mercedes Castañeda de Puente. She was the oldest of 7 children. Attended elementary school and then won a scholarship to the prestigious Academia de Anglo Español and graduated. She was trained to use IBM computers. She worked at a finance company. Mercedes met Aliver Jaime Moreno at a dance; they were both excellent dancers. She married him on April 20,1960 in Monterrey and then moved to Houston, Texas. They had one daughter, Christina. Mercedes worked for 28 years for the Houston Independent School District at Sidney Sherman Elementary as a cashier. The hours afforded her time to volunteer at Holy Name School and Church of which she was a member. She was president of Holy Name School's Mother's Club and volunteered at the school clinic. She loved to travel with her family to various states in Mexico. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, and embroidery, which she enjoyed up until the end.

Mercedes was a tough independent woman that arrived in the U.S. with no knowledge of the English language, but she learned the language and even with an accent, she made herself understood. She was not a shy person, was a strict parent, was a very caring and loving mother, grandmother and even great-grandmother. She adored her parents and was very devoted to them until their deaths. She loved her siblings; there is nothing she would have denied them. She was a great and loyal friend. She loved her religion and she had a deep faith, which she shared with her daughter and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed but know she is rejoicing with her loved ones who preceded her. May her soul rest in peace knowing her earthly responsibilities are done.

Mercedes was preceded in death by her parents Jesus and Mercedes Puente, her brother Javier Puente, her husband Aliver Jaime Moreno, and three children lost at birth. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter Christina Isabel Moreno-Conner, grandchildren: Christian R. Belle (Mark Belle), Alessandra S. Lopez (Eduardo Lopez), Kaitlyn M. Conner, great-grandchildren: Bjorn J. Belle and Samhain W. Belle (Christian), Aliver J. Cañas Fragoso, Rozlyn R. Torres, Nicolai M. Reyes, Lincoln A. Barnum (Allie), sisters: Aracely Puente Castañeda de Peña, Maria Cristina Puente Castañeda de Salinas, brothers: Jesus Puente Castañeda, Mario Puente Castañeda, Francisco Puente Castaneda.
