Michael was born January 23, 1953 in Midland, Texas to Dan and Carolyn Bee. From a young age, he developed a love of connecting with others across the world through amateur radio, robotics, and technology. He grew up in Longview, Texas, Tulsa, Oklahoma, then Houston, Texas, graduating from Westchester High School in 1971. In his younger years he also loved scuba diving, skiing, and music. After receiving a degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University, he was a leader of international business with companies such as Hunton Trane. Highly regarded not only for his knowledge and expertise, but his love of learning about cultures across many continents and countries, he easily made lifelong friends that extended beyond working relationships. He was always a learner of not only new technology but also many languages to connect with others. Before calling Texas home again for the last 25 years of his life, his work moved his family in a circle around the country including LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Holland, Michigan, Fort Smith, Arkansas, and more. Passionate about helping others through engineering, he worked on complex energy systems for universities and major hospitals in southeast Texas, including getting many schools up and running again after Hurricane Ike. Michael had a caring impact on countless friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors.
Michael enjoyed seeing the world especially on many cruises with his wife, entertaining family and friends, taking his children to symphonies and art museums, supporting the Houston Astros, launching weather balloons with his friends (BLT: Balloon Launch Team), spending time with his dogs, boating on Lake Livingston, fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, and hunting throughout Texas. He was a 33rd Degree Master Mason, and member of the Scottish Rite, Corvette Club, Texas Triumph Register, Houston MG Car Club, and St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church. He most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and was described as a friend to all.
Michael Alan Bee was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Carolyn Bee. He is survived and immensely loved by his wife of 43 years, Patty Bee; his daughter Victoria Marie Bee; his son Marcus Alan Bee; his sister Katherine Peveto; and his extended family and friends that he loved dearly. His key is silent now, but he will not be forgotten. Michael was kind and had numerous stories from his many adventures that he told with a signature quick wit. He will be greatly missed by all who were lucky to know him.
A memorial service will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, October 12th at the Texas Liberty Mausoleum and Robert L. Waltrip Memorial Chapel of Memorial Oaks, located at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
The Bee family would like to give a special thanks to Joseph Ebrada, Juniper Docdocil, Luis Rosales, Dr. Weston Hickey, Dr. Ashrith Guha, and the 4thQTR Men’s Ministry of Cypress Bible Church who took wonderful care of him in his final days of life.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that donations be made in Michael’s memory to the St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 13131 Fry Rd, Cypress, Texas 77433 or a nonprofit of your choice.
