Michael Nicholas Bua Jr.

Born in Houston on May 27, 1945, Nick’s faith in God was formed early and remained central throughout his life. He served for twelve years as an altar boy at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, assisting priests and bishops during the time of Cardinal Daniel DiNardo. Those formative years instilled a lifelong devotion to the Catholic Church and a deep respect for the priesthood.

Nick later became an active member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, where he attended daily Mass whenever possible and served his parish community faithfully. His faith was a steady source of strength and guidance throughout his life.

Nick built a career in the Houston automotive industry, where he was known for his craftsmanship in custom pinstriping and side moldings for dealerships. His passion for automobiles extended well beyond his work. He loved engines, admired classic restorations, and appreciated rare and distinctive cars. Car shows were among his favorite outings, where he could enjoy both the craftsmanship and the community.

While cars were his passion, people were his greatest joy. Nick never met a stranger and had a natural ability to make others feel comfortable and valued. He was known for his curiosity about people’s lives, often beginning conversations by asking, “Where did you grow up?” Whether briefly or at length, time with Nick always left others feeling seen and appreciated. His warmth, humor, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Nick shared 23 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Elsa Maria Bua. Through her, he embraced Colombia and its culture, which he came to love deeply. He also formed a special bond with her family and held a heartfelt affection for the sisters in the convent who welcomed him with kindness from the beginning.

Family was Nick’s greatest joy. He is survived by his wife, Elsa Maria Bua; his daughter, Debbie Ragan and her husband, Kevin Ragan; his brother, Thomas Bua; his daughter, Cameo Bua-Clements; and his cherished grandchildren, Khloe Ragan and Nicky Bua.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael “Nicky” Bua, and his parents, Nick and Sadie Bua.

Nick also valued lifelong friendships, including a close-knit group of friends from kindergarten who remained connected for more than 75 years, reflecting the enduring relationships he built throughout his life.

He will be remembered for his deep faith, kindness, and genuine compassion. Nick lived with humility, treating others with respect and making them feel at home. His legacy lives on in his family, his friendships, and the many lives he touched through simple acts of presence and care.

A Rosary will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, Texas.

A Prayer Service will be held at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 11507 Huffmeister Rd, Houston, TX 77065, US, on August 7, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at the same location on August 7, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023, US, on August 7, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
