Michael John Redman, born on September 20, 1936, to George William Redman and Alice Margaret Emmett, passed away on June 28, 2026.
Michael's journey began in Chalfont St. Peter, Buckinghamshire, England, where he was the eldest of three siblings. A scientist with an enduring curiosity, he earned his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry through the Royal Institute of Chemistry. Throughout his career, Michael authored twelve publications in scientific journals and was awarded multiple chemical patents. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he had a lifelong love of coin and stamp collecting, trains, and a deep appreciation for the conservation of nature. He also believed strongly in equality, justice, and treating all people with dignity and respect.
On December 28, 1961, Michael left England for Boston, Massachusetts, to conduct research at MIT, beginning a new chapter in his life. Nearly a year later, on December 2, 1962, he met the love of his life, Laila Zaki Ibrahim, affectionately known as "LZ." They were married on June 23, 1963.
Michael's career took the Redman family to several states throughout the United States. In 2000, Michael and Laila retired and made their home in Houston, Texas, where they enjoyed being close to their children and grandchildren.
Above all, Michael was a devoted husband for 61 years, a loving father, and a proud and dedicated grandfather. His passion for learning, travel, nature, and his unwavering support for his family defined the man he was.
Michael's legacy lives on through his children, Jennifer and John, Ramsey and Kathryn; his cherished grandchildren, Alexandra, Claudia, Andrew, and William; his sister, Jennifer Crook; and his extended family and friends across the United States, England, and the Middle East.
Though he will be deeply missed, Michael's love, values, and example will continue to guide and inspire all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Kuck family residence on Sunday, July 26 at 2:00pm. We welcome family and friends to join as we gather to honor, remember and celebrate a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Michael's name to the National Parks Foundation, Nature Conservancy, or Ocean Conservancy.
