Mike was survived by his wife Lucy of 51 years. Also surviving are his daughters Melissa-Ann and Melanie, his granddaughters Jordan Rae and Melissa Faith, and son in law Greg. Mike was the first born of 9 children. He cherished his role as big brother and spoke proudly and often of his brothers and sisters. The loves of his life over the past 3 years have been his grandchildren.
Mike led a full and adventurous life. He was born on a US Navy Hospital ship in San Francisco. He attended De La Salle school in Manila, Philippines and graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor of science degree.
Mike was a 22 year US Army Veteran and one of the very few who served in both the Vietnam War and Persian Gulf War. During his time in the service, Mike was stationed in Fort Irwin, CA, Fort Sill, OK, Fort Richardson, Alaska, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Garlstedt Germany, Fort Polk, LA. Following his distinguished military career Mike worked for the US Postal Service for 10 years.
Mike Sun was a generous man and was quick to help anyone in need. He was respected and admired by his fellow soldiers and colleagues. A master story teller with a life full of experiences, Mike could talk for hours and make instant friendships. Mike was an auto enthusiast, a weapons expert, an expert marksman, a historian and a passionate observer of life. His warmth, wit and charm were noticed and loved by all that he met.
