On October 17th of 1958, in Kochi, India, Michael Sebastian Udayan entered this world. He was welcomed into the loving embrace of Jesus Christ on January 27th, 2022, in Houston, Texas, United States, at the young age of 63. Born to parents Dr. Arayathinal Michael (father) and Kochuthresia (mother), Michael spent most of his young life in New Delhi, India. At the age of 19, he embarked on a journey of international travel, backpacking through various parts of Asia, before settling in the U.S.
Michael entered into the restaurant industry as a busboy at Clinkerdagger Restaurant, worked his way up into the role of maître d', and his drive and ambition eventually led him to become the manager of the Red Lion Hotel in Bellevue, WA. In 1981, Michael obtained his Associate degree of Business from Columbia Basin College in Pasco, WA, and later continued his pursuit for education at Washington State University, majoring in Hospitality Business Management.
In 1991, Michael began to travel around the States for the Red Lion Hotels Corporation, renovating and managing several hotels in Washington, Nebraska, Arizona, and Texas. His innovative, business-driven mind led him to pursue ownership within the InterContinental Hotels Group, eventually landing him in Sugar Land, TX in 2006. In addition to being a hotelier for several properties, he founded the Ameristar Hospitality Group, and invested in ownership within the Ameripride Construction Company, as well as several small restaurant chains.
In the Spring of 2018, Michael was involved in an automobile accident that rendered him paralyzed from the chest down. Despite this tragedy, Michael persevered and leaned into the Lord. He continued to demonstrate remarkable tenacity and diligence, immediately learning how to drive again, and founding several businesses including laundromats, a consulting firm, painting company, and a housekeeping service.
Michael accredited the reason for his pursuits to the desire of leaving a legacy for his five surviving children, leading him to develop a construction company named after their initials, MBASB: Melissa Nicole, Michael Brandon, Aaron Michael, Stephanie Gabrielle, and Benjamin Sebastian. Michael is also survived by his sister, Dr. Vimala Vinod, brother, Vijayan Michael, nephew, Vinoy Michael, nieces, Vinita Michael Joseph, Sanjana Vinod, and Meghana Vinod, and great-nephews Ethan and Marcus. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kochuthresia and
Dr. Arayathinal Michael Michael.
Michael Sebastian Udayan was as brilliant as he was an excellent chef, a doting father, a considerate son, uncle, and brother, a generous and supportive friend, a humorous, adventurous, and convivial man that was deeply loved by everyone around him. He was constantly seeking out ways to help his employees, friends, and family achieve success. Carrying an inviting and auspicious energy, Michael proved to be the life and heartbeat of every social situation (especially those involving karaoke). An incredible soul that will enjoy the everlasting blessings of eternal life with Jesus Christ, Michael’s memory on Earth will be admired for generations to come.
