I always loved his smile. It came from his heart.

As all who knew Mike, we will cherish our memories with him. All the years we competed with him, he carried that smile, and laugh, like a badge. Whither on the line, or in camp, he was not just admired but loved.

I remember walking to range house one morning and several folks had told me "Nice Job" "Well Done", not sure what I had done, just smiled to myself.. Come to find out Susy Larson & Rhonda Lea McCartney had tolet papered the Cook's tents... I got the blame!!  Mike's big smile with "You must have put them up to it"  Indeed his grand Smile, wonderful nature and fierce competitive side on bench line will be missed. I hope wonderful memories will help you thru this tough time.

I'm so blessed and thankful to have such a wonderful father. I have so many great memories that I will be able to cherish forever.  

I remember when I was in school, Dad would help me with my homework. I would study so hard and for so long that he would always say that I was the only one of his kids he had to ask to stop studying so much.

I also remember when I was growing up I thought I was going to be the next Loretta Lynn. However, Dad sat me down and told me that God put us on this earth to do something, but singing wasn't it for me. Those of you that have heard me sing know that he was right. He always had the best sense of humor and could make you smile.

Another great memory that stands out for me was Dad taking me to a doctors appointment when I was young and it was so cold outside that the windows were icy. He began clearing his side of the window and on my side he just cleared two round circles for my eyes and I thought that was so cool. I remember all the summer vacations we had at the lake getting in his canoe or sailboat and having a blast. As well as the times we got to go to work with him at the hospital. These are just a few memories that I will forever cherish.

Dad was really good about teaching us life lessons- treat people with respect and that hard work pays off.  He was a good listener, gave great advice, and always made sure we were taken care of.

I'm also so thankful for the relationship that my Dad and Husband had together. They were like two peas in a pod. Vance would tell me that Dad was his best friend and Dad would tell me how much he loved Vance and how happy he was that he's a part of our family.

Thank you, Dad, for being such an amazing person, father, husband and friend. I'm going to miss you so much, but know you will still be with me.

With loving thoughts to comfort you during this time of sorrow. Mike was a wonderful colleague. He was always in a good mood and everyone looked forward to seeing him.

Sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I worked nights with him and Deanne Tucker and we shared many good times. I will remember him fondly with a Nook in one hand and a gun in the other!

  My Dad had a unique sense of humor as you all know.  A story he would tell us was when he was a young man in his High School days one day he wanted to go out with his friends from school, so he asked his Dad if it would be alright to go.  Grandpa Cook said he could go but first Dad needed to mow the yard prior to going.  Dad got out the lawn mower and went to work mowing the yard as fast as he could.  Once finished he went to Grandpa to let him know that the yard was mowed and that he would be leaving with his friends.  Grandpa said, well let's take a look at what you have done.  Grandpa noticed that in Dad's haste that he had missed a lot of the grass and said that he needed to do the job correctly.  So Dad went to get the lawn mower like anyone would do and Grandpa stopped him and handed him a pair of scissors to cut the grass he had missed.  That lesson stuck with my Dad for the rest of his life.
  Dad went on to get married and raise five children, three boys and two girls.  Myself and Troy were always getting into some kind of trouble.  From starting fires to getting into fights with each other or our siblings.  My Mom had to deal with the majority of the issues due to Dad working nights or the grave yard shift at the hospital.  But Mom always made sure Dad was well informed of what his sons had done.  She would call Dad at work to let him know what trouble we had gotten into this time.  To Moms credit she would also call Dad again prior to him getting off of work, just to ensure he would be fired up on the ride home.  While waiting for Dad to come home my brother and I knew we were in trouble and tried to prepare ourselves for the spanking that was coming by putting National Geographic's in our pants in an attempt to soften the spanking that was sure to come.  Needless to say we got what we deserved.   But I can only imagine my Dad trying to hold back from laughing at the site of his two boys with those magazines in our pants.  Years later Dad asked Jeff why he never got in trouble like his other two brothers and Jeff said that seeing the spanking that we got was enough to keep him out of trouble.  
  Growing up I was a handful and put my Dad and Mom through a lot of things that they did not deserve.  On my Dad's advice I joined the Navy to get the discipline and direction that I truly needed.  I retired from the navy after 26 years of service.  My Dad was always just a phone call away when I needed advice or guidance, and I called him often.
  I have tried most of my adult life to repay that debt to my parents and make things right.  One could not ask for a better set of parents, and I am very fortunate to call him my Dad.
Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end.  They simply mean I'll miss you, until we meet again.

Mr. Cook was not only my father-in-law, he was my best friend. I have so many great memories that we have created together. One of my favorites was the time we were on our way to Nationals in Friendship, Indiana and we were having the best conversations that we missed our exit by 100 miles! We had so many good times at the shoots and the deer lease just shooting the breeze. He got me into Muzzle loading and that became a passion to both of us. He told me many times that I made him shoot harder. I tried my best to compete with him, but many times I would come up short. 
  I'm truly blessed to have not only know him, but to truly be a part of his family. I'm going miss him and all the good times and great conversations we had.

Mike and I enjoyed each other's company since the early 80s. He was always telling a story, laughing about something or helping others with an equipment problem when not reading conditions. I am very glad I got to see him for a few minutes at Brady in October.  I miss Mike already. So long old friend.

Mike was truly a wonderful person to know and work with. He touched so many lives with wonderful memories. The greatest gift he leaves is a spirit that lives eternally.

Fly high with the angels keeping heaven brighter.

  I remember being very young and Pop and I driving down 59 in Humble in his silver pickup truck jamming and singing along to this crazy song from the 50's while he let me put my hand on the wheel and steer. I remember being a teenager and him doing what he called the "reindeer dance" in public and completely embarrassing me and I still smile fondly when I think about that. I remember him always telling me to treat people the way you would want to be treated and to have a sense of humor in this crazy life. I remember Pop holding Mom's hand, palm to palm, and calling her his soul mate and seeing how utterly devoted he was to her.

   Pop was our protector, defender, rescuer, and comedic relief. The depth of our love and reverence for him is endless. I spent 36 years being raised, loved, emotionally supported, and cheered on by him. If I am even half the parent he was then I've done an amazing job. 

   When my son was born, Pop would tell me his hopes for Henry. He hoped he would be smart and caring and how he really wanted to see him graduate from high school. I promise you Pop that I will continue to instill in Henry the same values you instilled in me and my memories of you will always be shared with him through fond smiles and big laughs.  I love you so very much, Papa, and I will miss you terribly.
