Mildred Aleen Barlow went to be with her Lord Jesus on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at the age of 89.
She was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Mildred knew no stranger and was a friend to anyone she met.
Mildred was born on April 30, 1932 in Caldwell, Texas. She was baptized at New Tabor Brethren Church and confirmed at Cooks Point Brethren Church. She was later a member of the Houston Brethren Church and Christian Sisters Society.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Mary Verwold, brothers Edward “Jim” Verwold, Robert “Bob” Verwold, Oscar Lehde and sister Hilda Lehde Trcalek.
She is survived by her son Dennis Verwold (wife Nora), brothers J.T. Verwold and Gene Verwold (wife Evelyn), two granddaughters Julie Walton and Victoria Verwold, great-grandchildren Olivia Marburger and Wesley Marburger, nieces Tammy Verwold, Virginia Lehde, Donna Verwold, Diane Chavarria, Karen Verwold, Carla Youngblood, nephew Gerald Verwold and special family friend Debbie Flores.
Through the years, she worked in a day care, school cafeteria and later at a hair salon. This is what she did best and enjoyed, cooking and taking care of others. She was a wonderful cook who served many a Thanksgiving dinner and dozens and dozens of Christmas cookies through the years. If you needed a place to stay, help with a cleaning project or just needed someone to talk to, she was there for you.
As much as Mildred loved her family, she loved listening to music. She especially loved listening to her son Dennis sing and play the guitar. She used to listen and tape the weekly “country countdown” and write down every song in a notebook. She was quite the dancer in her younger days and loved to go out country & western dancing.
Mildred was the most giving person you would ever meet. Her impact on all she met with her love and kindness is immeasurable and her memory will be eternal.
