Mildred Florence Curtis

Mildred Florence Smith Curtis was born April 30, 1933 in a log cabin outside of Hodgenville in Nelson County, KY. She was the second child of Amos Raymond Smith, a farmer who quickly nick-named her “Dolly”, and mother Mary Ellen Bogard Smith. She attended Cumberland College briefly and toured with a male choir as pianist from her father’s Seminary. She was very musical and also played the organ and accordion.

She married Dr. John James Curtis, Jr. in 1950 in Pineville, KY and gave birth to her first child John James Curtis, III in Lexington, KY in 1951. They moved to Houston, TX to begin their lives in ministry of Memorial Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Bellaire. She attended Willow Meadows Baptist Church for many years. In Texas she had four more children Raymond Peak, Anne Spurr, Richard Henry and Deborah Lee. Mildred worked her own home business as a magazine sales representative for over 45 years. She traveled to Europe several times and the Holy Land with her church group.

Mildred was married for sixty one years before John passed away in April 2012. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Hubert Smith. She is survived by her five children, six grandchildren Erika Boyd, John Curtis, Abbey Taylor, Hannah Taylor, Jordan Curtis, Devin Curtis, and five great grandchildren, Henry Boyd, John James Thomas ("JT") Curtis, Cameron Kormondy, Callie Curtis, and Grace Boyd, along with a sister, Iona Hisle, and brother, Donald Smith, and many other nieces and nephews. She now continues her journey in Heaven as she so joyously looked forward to, joining hands with John once again.
