Mildred Ann (Abernathy) Rankin

Mildred married Walter H. Rankin on August 25, 1957, in Montgomery County, Texas. They made Houston their home as Walter was a member of the Houston Police Department for over 20 years before being elected as Constable of Harris County Precinct 1 in 1965.

When Mildred’s health began to deteriorate and she needed assistance, she was blessed with the services of her long-time caregiver, Lisa. Together they would listen to music and sing Mildred’s favorite songs, enjoy outings to eat Mildred’s favorite meal of chicken-and dumplings, and indulge in the occasional pie from Flying Saucer Pie Company. During the last year, Mildred became attached to Lisa’s dog, Tayler.

Mildred is predeceased by her husband, Walter H. Rankin; son, Kenneth L. Rankin; mother, Doris Hughes; twin sister, Miriam Moses; brother, Kenneth “Wendell” Abernathy; and half-brother, Danny Hughes.

Mildred is survived by one half-sister: Patricia Peco and a host of other family members.

Mildred will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Garden of Memories.
