Millicent Rogan Clark passed away on Monday, the 18th of May, 2015, in Houston,Texas. Millicent was born in New York City, New York. She was the second oldest of seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. John Rogan. The Rogan family moved to Ireland to live near their mother’s home, in Gortgarn for several years while Millicent was young. The family returned to the United States and settled in Elmira, New York.
Millicent loved growing up in a large family and loved sharing stories of the adventures she had with her brothers and sisters in Ireland and in New York. Although she always thought she would become a French teacher, a slight detour led her into a career in nursing. After graduating from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, she went to work at John’s Hopkin’s in Baltimore, Maryland with Dr. Blalock and Dr. Taussing. She later returned to work in New York City at Cornell Medical Center. She married Frederick Joseph Clark in Elmira, New York. After marriage, she continued working at St. Joseph’s Hospital until the birth of her children. Millicent and Fred enjoyed living in Elmira, Olean, Louisville, Houston, Chicago and back to Houston.
Millicent had six beautiful children and nine wonderful grandchildren. She devoted her life to her family and considered her grandchildren her special angels. A hug from Gran made all things better. Millicent never met a stranger. She believed everyone needed a smile and a friendly word. She watched out for all the neighbors and anyone in need of a friend. She believed in the importance of education and travel. She was proud of her Irish heritage and often told stories of her time in Ireland.
Millicent is now reunited in Heaven with her husband Fred Clark, sister Eileen Rogan White and her parents John and Susan Rogan.
Millicent is survived by her daughter Eileen, her husband Joel Newsome, and his son Scott; daughter Marie Clark; son Fred, his wife Abby Clark and their children Finnegan and Laurel; John Clark and his son Owen; son Mike, his wife Rebecca Clark and their children Henry, Lily, Sophie and Joseph; daughter Sheila, her husband Bernard Branca and their children Michael and Carolyn; her brother Colonel John F.
