Miriam Sofia Diaz, age 82, passed away on January 28th 2023 in Cypress, Texas, at her sons home with family.
Miriam Sofia Diaz was born in Matanzas,Cuba on October 30th 1940. She met her husband Pedro Diaz on a flight to the United States. It was love at first sight. They married in Union City, New Jersey shortly after and then settled in New Jersey. She worked at a clothing factory in New Jersey. Once relocating to Houston, TX, Miriam’s focus was being a stay at home mom to her son Pedro J. Diaz, while her husband worked. She was a loving and caring woman deeply rooted in the Catholic Church.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, primarily her grand daughters. She loved being with her friends and spending time with them at church and going out to have lunch. While in her apartment, she would spend her days playing with her fur baby Toby, and having Cuban coffee with friends. In her younger years, she absolutely loved to dance with her husband; that’s part of being Cuban. They would go out to dance contests and competitions throughout the city, and would always win. Always bringing high energy to every dance contest. They would also dance at church and were part of the dance group. She was a long time member at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church and would spend the majority of her time at church. Her best friend was Gloria, and she loved her like a sister.
She was a loving mother and grandmother; who was always there for family no matter what. She was also a tremendously strong woman who fought and beat cancer twice; and recovered from back surgery, still retaining her independence and mobility. During her last months, she was with her son and family in which she was grateful and happy.
She was predeceased by her husband Pedro Diaz who passed away on December 16th, 2012. She leaves behind her son Pedro J. Diaz and his wife Alejandra Diaz; and grand daughters Stephanie D. Diaz, Christina N. Diaz and Alexis D. Diaz.
Special thanks and blessings to Gloria and her husband for always being with her.
