

Miriam Ann Johnson Wignes passed away September 4, 2025 surrounded by her loving family due to complications of Alzheimers disease. Miriam was born April 25th 1935 in Worcester Massachusetts. She was the 3rd child of 6 born to Mary and Matthew Johnson.
Miriam known to friends as Mim was a proud Finn, New Englander, Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots Fan. She graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester. At the age of 20, Mim decided to set out for New York City and moved there on her own near Central Park. Mim worked at the Association of the Junior League for several years. She attended Hunter college while living in New York City. She also volunteered as a girl scout camp counselor and was a proud girl scout and girl scout leader. Church was the center of her life at Mim was a proud Lutheran.
Mim met the love of her life Christian Wignes in 1958 at a friend’s party. After 6 months of dating, Chris proposed to her in a NYC Taxi cab. They were married on February 13, 1960 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Worcester Massachusetts followed by a honeymoon of skiing in Lake Placid, NY. They started their life together in Glenwood Landing New York. Later, in 1962, Chris was transferred to California where their first child Christian David was born in 1963. Chris was transferred back to New York and their second child Suzanne Beth was born in 1965.
Mim and Chris raised their family on Long Island NY where the immersed themselves in the neighborhood friendships and were founding members of Christ Lutheran Church. Mim was a cub scout mom, Little League team mom and Sunday school teacher. By 1978, they were on the move again. This time Chris was transferred to Houston, Texas.
While in Houston, Mim worked for Spring Branch Independent School district as a special education assistant for 25 years and were proud members of Holy Cross Lutheran church. Mim was a proud Aggie mom as Suzanne attended Texas A&M University. Education was very important to Mim as she was a life-long learner, she loved school was always enrolled in continuing education of some sort. Mim was especially passionate about her bible studies.
The ultimate host, Mim thoroughly enjoyed family get togethers at the family pool and around holidays. She was a loving grandmother to Lindsay and later in life blessed with a great granddaughter Caroline who she adored. She was a friend to all and never met someone she did not love. She treated everyone with love, taught her children not to see color and not carry hate in their hearts.
Mim was married to her beloved husband Chris for 58 years before he succumbed to Lung cancer in 2018. She and Chris traveled the world as both had a passion for life.
After Chris Passed, Mim moved to North Carolina with Suzanne and her husband Mike where she fully embraced the mountains and her new church Our Savior Lutheran.
Mim is preceded in death by mother Mary, father Matthew, sisters Eileen and Virginia, brothers Richard and Russell, husband Chris and son Christian.
She leaves behind her sister Lydia, daughter Suzanne and husband Mike Doler, granddaughter Lindsay Doler and fiancé Austin Iselt, great granddaughter Caroline Iselt, numerous nieces and nephews and close family friends.
The family would like to thank Four Seasons Hospice for their wonderful care that carried Mim to the end, granddaughter Lindsay for her unconditional love as well as Anna and Bob Sharp who loved her like she was their own mother.
