She was born in Graham, TX on January 10, 1928, to Gus and Evelyn Sarsfield, but was raised by her loving step-mother, Billie Bridges. She attended Orange High School in Orange, TX and was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps, graduating in 1944. Following graduation, she worked at Consolidated Steel Shipbuilding to support the war effort. Mollie attended college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX where she met and married Royce Hopkins on December 20, 1948. She moved to Houston, TX in 1951, to raise her family, and while doing so owned and operated a travel agency, led Girl Scouts and became a swim mom. She loved spending time with family, traveling and baking and had a knack for sewing, but she truly enjoyed playing bridge. She moved to Brookshire, TX in 1974 and actively volunteered as a member of the First United Methodist Church and as cashier in the gift shop in Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy, TX. Each year she sewed Christmas stockings for the newborn babies and her goal and proudest achievement was to insure each newborn received one. In 2010, to be closer to family, Mollie moved to Austin, TX where she forged many new friendships and continued her bridge playing up until her final days. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mollie was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Royce Hopkins. She is survived by daughters Sharon Harvie of Brunswick, ME; Kim Montag and her husband Jeff of McAllister, MT; Kit Hopkins of Volente, TX; her son Mike Hopkins and his wife Andrea of Cedar Park, TX; granddaughter Jennifer Shepherd and grandson Chris Hopkins.
Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. on January 18, 2017 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
