Morris D. Rubin was born 1 of 8 children, 5 boys and 3 girls, in Colfax, LA to Calup Rubin Sr and Willie Mae Rubin. He moved to Houston, TX where he met his wife (of 37 years) Willie Rubin and raised their 4 children. Morris was a man of many talents; he seldomly would draw, shoot pool, play the keyboard and sing (when he thought no one was listening).
During his young adult years, his dream was to enlist in the army, but that dream would not come true due to a severe back injury. So, Morris began his search for work and landed a position at a local hardware store (somewhere between 1965-1967). Because of his knack for precision, he soon achieved the title of first Black manager. In 2008, he retired as a forklift operator and warehouse worker with Merfish Supply Co, where he worked for 30+ years.
Although he never played sports, he loved to watch football (Steelers), basketball (Lakers & Warriors), baseball (Dodgers & Astros) and boy was he a fan of old westerns! He spent most of his time as a homebody, watching travel channels on Youtube and completing projects around the house. And when he wasn't test-tasting the latest sweets made by his wife Willie, they would both sit and critique the newest action films. Morris was very much into taking walks in the park and spending time with his grandson “TJ”. Whether it was watching him ride his bike, building with blocks/legos or making 3D figures out of plastic and cardboard, he was committed to every moment! You could say his favorite things to do were traveling with his family, watching a good game and spending quality time with his favorite little-person, TJ.
Morris is survived by his loving wife, Willie Rubin, his children (Taneka Brown, Takara Brown, Erica Rubin, Joycelyn Rubin) and a grandson (Tierion Johnson). He is also survived by his three siblings (Erana Stewart, Clyde Rubin and Sadie Rubin), along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Willie Mae Emery and Calup Rubin Sr and four siblings (Calup Rubin Jr "Bruh", Wilmer Rubin "Sweet Pea", Henry Rubin "Man" and Mary Jean Rubin "BaeBae").
