Morrison Raymond “Moe” Plaisance was born on the 7th of June 1948, in Golden Meadow, Louisiana to Doris and Rudy Plaisance, and passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, the 1st of April 2025. He was married to his wife, childhood sweetheart Victoria Collins for fifty-six years. They had two children and four granddaughters.
While attending Louisiana State University in 1968, he was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in combat. He graduated from Nichols State University in 1972 with a bachelor’s in science-management with a minor in petroleum technology.
As a third generation drilling contractor, he worked for over fifty years around the world in the oil industry. He spent a memorable ten years in Aberdeen, Scotland with his family before moving to Houston working for Diamond Offshore (ODECO) predecessor for forty-five years.
He was an active member of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He served numerous roles in both: from Director, Chairman, Vice President of the US Central Region and the North Sea Chapters of IADC to the Chairman of the IADC/SPE Conference. Additionally, he served on the Board of Directors for the Oil Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. While in Scotland he was an active School Board member of the American School in Aberdeen.
He was a kind man with the sweetest smile, he had the ability to make anyone feel comforted by his demeanor. He was calm and steady, a brilliant speaker, and a deep thinker. He always worked hard yet knew how to let the good times roll, especially with Ms. Vickie at his side.
Their marriage was a true love story. Even living through the unimaginable loss of their 24-year-old son Lil Moe, they radiated with joy in their deep faith and love of life. This faith, his family and friends were most important to him.
He was the best dad. He guided his children with his gentle hands throughout their lives, and his daughter Mandy, his Little Poulet held his hand through his later years. No doubt his greatest joy was being Big Daddy to his four granddaughters. His eyes always lit up when they walked in the room, and he would often sing to them “You are so beautiful to me” or “You are my Sunshine.” They were his sunshine even when skies were grey.
He treasured growing up in South Louisiana being the oldest of five boys, hunting, and fishing with his brothers. His love of the outdoors ran throughout his life from pheasant hunting in Scotland, fly fishing in Montana, to his own MVP Ranch in Langtry, Texas. He loved the time at the ranch with his family and friends. He was a mentor and friend to all.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria Plaisance; his daughter, Mandy Plaisance Diaz and her husband Rafael; his siblings, Robert Plaisance and his wife Gail, David Plaisance and his wife Lori, Billy Plaisance and his wife Debra, and Rudy Plaisance and his wife Stacy; his granddaughters, Victoria, and Josephine Diaz, Jesse Rae Plaisance, and Matty Callais; as well as her parents, Leah and Donnie Callais.
