
Mr. David Benjamin Newton was born December 22, 1934 in Washington, Louisiana to Albert and Zola Newton. He was the third child born to this union. David graduated from Washington Colored High School in 1953 and moved to Houston, Texas in 1955. He was united in marriage to Christine Thomas on January 21, 1956 and to this union, two children were born. David was employed briefly by Louis C. Brown Toy Company until he began working for Maritime I.L.A. He was a dedicated and hard working longshoreman for the Port of Houston from 1965 until he retired in 2006. He confessed his faith in Christ and was baptized at an early age in Washington, Louisiana at Zion Baptist Church, and later joined St. Matthew Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Cecil Davis. David loved working in his yard and playing dominoes with his friends and neighbors. David departed his life on Friday, May 13, 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Albert and Zola Newton and sister Irene. He is survived by: his devoted wife Christine Newton of 60 years, twin brother Jonathan (Dorothy), son Jeffrey Newton, daughter Rhonda Lynn Smith (Ozell), grandchildren LaKara Newton, Jalen and Justin Smith, sister in law Artensy Clark, brother in law Hollis Thomas, and other special relatives including Lynee’ Newton, Loretta Ray, Tamika Moore and Davy Lee Williams. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
