

If you believe in Angels; the kind that heaven sends. I tell you this story: Betty G. Nickles was born in Montpelier, Louisiana -May 16, 1940 to the late Hannah and Wesley Vining. She was educated in the St. Helena Parish School System. She gained her wings and transitioned from this life for a better home in glory to be with her Lord and Savior on May 15, 2015. She married Linzy R. Nickels - October 21, 1961 and to this union five children were born. As a young couple at the age of 18 and 19 on October 15, 1968 Ray and Betty purchased their home together. This home God gave them on 8029 Homewood was blessed with lots of love and laughter, and with much prayer; with much passion, and delight she cooked and entertained family and friends. She was a loving and devoted Wife, Mother, Nanny (Big Mama), Sister, Aunt and Friend, always putting others before herself. She had the most generous, loving heart and touched many lives with her presence and meals. Her family and friends will always be thankful for this precious gift that was her life; Heavenly Angel on earth. "Nanny" especially enjoyed spending time with and nurturing her children and grandchildren. She took much joy in gardening her yard; that which shows the beauty of God in her Spirit. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age, where she served at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Montpelier, Louisiana. There she served faithfully, as a member who truly loved the Lord. She was a member of Houston Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church - Pastor Ira Singleton 1975-2000. Sister Nickles joined Monument Of Faith Church of God In Christ 2000 - under the leadership of Pastor James L. Ford. She served on the Mother's Board and Deaconess, Fund the Vision committee, cooking dinner every 1st Saturday of the month. She served with her Husband during his time of driving the church van in the community picking up the church members. As a Deaconess, she help served communion on First Sunday's. Nanny was preceded in death by her son Glenn "Bat Man", granddaughters: Brittany Nickleson, Ciara Ard, sister: Catherine Goldman Survived by loving husband Deacon Linzy Nickels of 54 years. Daughters: Sylvia(Cardell) Vining, Shirley Ard, Shard (Roy) Gladney, Nicole (Michael) Brown. Son: Lynn (Kim) Nickelson. Grandchildren: LaKisha, Tameka, Jessica, Tyisha, Jeremiah, Damine, Royletta (Ken), Simone, Ebony, Lynetta, Jamaqus, Jyln, Courtney, Glenn, Kaream. Two brothers: Wesley Vining, Charles Vining. God-Children: Ka'Lyn Jackson, Kevin Smith, Renea Smith, Judy Crosby. Aunt: Ollie Bell. Brother-In laws: Harry (Carol) Brown Jr. Kansas City, Kansas, Quinton (LaTonya) Ard Houston. Sisters-In laws Cynthia (James) Ford Humble, Texas, Carla (Coleman) Tarver, Pearland, Texas Helen Welch (Kansas City, Missouri) Lorreta Bell (Amite, Louisiana), Dora Daniels (Amite, Louisiana) Mary (Curtis) Burkhalter, Amite, Louisiana, Naomi Ard (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) Terry Mitchell and Oliver Ard, Fluker, Louisiana. She is further survived by 20 great-grandchildren, and host nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
