In 1949, Freddie Mae united in Holy Matrimony to Arvilla Harris. To this union three children were born. Freddie Mae accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Corinth Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor S. M. Harnsberry and remained a faithful member under the leadership of Pastor U. C. Barnes, Sr. Upon moving to Houston, Texas with her daughter, she worshipped under watch care with Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Edwin A. Davis. She was a faithful member for more than sixty years. Her devoted time was served as Sunday School teacher, Baptist Training Union (BTU) teacher, Mission 1 President, a member of the Mission Chorus and a member of the Lincoln District Association Mission 1. Freddie Mae was affectionately called Madea, Granny, Grandma and Aunt Freddie Mae. Madea's favorite hymn was His Eye is on the Sparrow. Her favorite pass-time was listening to old time gospel music cassette tapes while looking at memorable pictures of family and friends. She collected newspaper articles, programs and certificates of the major accomplishments of others as well. Everyone knew that if they wanted those good 'ole tea cakes and peanut butter cookies they could count on her to bake her favorites. She would even provide the recipe if you wanted it!
