My On Chung

My On Chung was born on February 19, 1935, in Chau Doc, Vietnam. She lived a remarkable life defined by courage, determination, resilience, and a deep love for her family.

Before coming to the United States, she was a school teacher and devoted mother who raised six children. She was also a successful businesswoman—street smart and resourceful. Through her determination and ability to build connections, she earned contracts to serve food at military bases, creating opportunities for herself and her family through hard work and perseverance.

After the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, our family faced hardships and uncertainty living under a communist regime. In 1977, she played an instrumental role in helping all of us escape Vietnam and begin a new life in the United States. One of her greatest acts of love was saving our brother Chuck’s life when he was drafted to the front lines in Cambodia. With an ingenious escape plan, she found a way to protect her son and keep him out of harm’s way by hiding him in a remote village until the day we reunited, the same day we left Vietnam.

When she arrived in the United States, she continued to embody the entrepreneurial spirit that defined her. She opened a Vietnamese restaurant, a po boy shop, a jewelry store, and later managed the family’s rental property business. She embraced every challenge with confidence and determination, proving that with hard work, anything was possible.

Our mother was bold, fearless, and unapologetically herself. She taught us to strive for excellence, to pursue success, and to never be afraid of taking risks. She was the leader of our household, the foundation of our family, and the glue that held us together through every chapter of our lives.

Above all her accomplishments, she was a devoted mother. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her family. In her later years, some of her happiest moments were vacations by the beach or Saturday lunches with her children and grandchildren .

We will cherish the lessons she taught us, the sacrifices she made, and the countless memories we shared. We find comfort knowing that she is reunited in heaven with her beloved mother, our father, and our brother Vu.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.

Visitation will be held at the Chapel of Eternal Peace at Forest Park, 2454 S Dairy Ashford, Houston, TX 77077, US, on July 27, 2026, from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location on July 27, 2026, at 1:30 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077, US, on July 27, 2026, at 2:30 pm.
