Mỹ Thị Nguyễn, 99, passed away on April 25, 2026. Born on November 1, 1926, in Ha Noi, Vietnam, she lived a long life marked by steadfast self-reliance, quiet devotion to family, and a presence that was deeply cherished by all who knew her.
Mỹ was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her family was the center of her world. She was well loved by everyone, remembered with enduring affection and respect for the way she carried herself—steady, capable, and determined to do things on her own terms, even in her later years. Up to a few days before she passed at the group home, Willow Colony Villa in Katy, Mỹ would take her dirty dishes to the sink herself and refused assistance in the bathroom, a reflection of the independence that defined her.
She found comfort and joy in simple, faithful pleasures—especially knitting and reading—pastimes that suited her patient spirit and thoughtful nature. Mỹ used to love going to the casino to play slot machines. She especially loved the penny machine. While her family is sure that she lost money, she would only boast that she won!
Those closest to Mỹ will also remember the gentle humor that ran through her days. Her famous lines—“Don’t worry about me” and “I’m not hungry”—became family classics, made all the funnier by the fact that she had a hearty appetite and was known to gather food from the table when no one was looking. Even in ordinary moments, she had a way of leaving people smiling.
Though she was not a hugger, time softened that boundary, and she came to enjoy hugs and kisses—on one condition: only with a Westerner. It was a small detail, fondly remembered, that captured her unmistakable way of being herself.
The family would like to thank the staff of Willow Colony Villa in Katy for the tremendous job they did in taking care of Mỹ. They are incredibly grateful to the owner and team that gave around-the-clock care and compassion.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Tuan Anh Do.
She is survived by her daughter, To Chau Russo (Tony Russo), granddaughter Chloe Lan Russo; the children of her late son, Paul Do, Andrew Do (Tina Do), Richard Do (Van Do); her son Nam Do (Mai Thuy Do), grandchildren Jillian Quynh Do and Julianne Nhu Do; her daughter Mai Dung Nguyen, grandchildren Jason Nguyen, Gabrielle Cannon (Joseph Cannon), her daughter Ngoc Minh Do (Gerard Gabel), and grandchildren Gina Do and Julien Le; her son Tien Do (Sandy Do), grandchildren Adrian Do and Andrea Do (Nakota Crow); and her great-grandchildren Vanessa Thuy Linh Do, Blake Nguyen, Sadie Nguyen, Tyler Do, Lucas Do, Giselle Do, Emelia Do, and Camille Do.
Visitation will be held at the Chapel of Eternal Peace at Forest Park, 2454 S Dairy Ashford, Houston, TX 77077, on May 8, 2026, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Mỹ Thị Nguyễn will be remembered with gratitude, respect, and lasting love.
