

Myrna Perez Cantu went to be with our Lord on April 30, 2024. She was born in Houston, Texas on January 17, 1957, to parents Jose and Maria de la Luz Perez. Myrna worked in the banking industry until her retirement in 2022.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Richard Chapa Cantu, mother, Maria de la Luz Perez, grandmothers, Maria Teresa Sanchez, and Margarita Ramos. She is survived by her stepchildren, Richard Cantu, Jr. and Julie (Ronnie) Flores; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; father, Jose Perez, siblings George Perez, Irma (Luis) Rodriguez, Robert Perez, Rogelio (Roy) (Aida) Perez, Norma Perez, Mary (Julian) Duron, and Rose (Joe) Cordaway, sister-in-law, Julie Pemberton; nieces and nephews, Wendy (David) Dujardin), Robin (Steven) Whatley, Lance (Heather) Perez, Jason (Pam) Rodriguez, Vince (Debbie) Rodriguez, Maricela (Gregory) Donovan, Joshua (Sheila) Rodriguez, Melinda (Michael) Garza, Robert (Delphie) Perez Jr., Michael Perez, Philip Perez, Chantel (Javier) Cantu, Christina (Shawn) Gurka, Christopher Cordaway and Joseph (Anne) Cordaway; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Myrna loved the water and eventually moved to San Leon, Texas to be close to the water. From her home, she could look out every day and see Galveston Bay. That made her extremely happy. Myrna also loved her beloved pet dogs, Dallas, and Cowboy. They became her constant companions after the death of her husband Richard. Myrna loved to dance to Tejano music. Myrna and Richard laughed and danced through life with a joy that was infectious. Everyone would always be mesmerized by their dancing moves. After Richard’s death, her family and many friends were by her side to help her through the grieving process. Numerous family members and friends were on the cellphone with her for several hours every night keeping her company and cherishing precious memories.
Myrna’s spirit could light up a room. She embraced everyone. She knew no strangers. She loved recalling memories of the past with her siblings. She especially enjoyed telling her beloved nieces and nephews of the beautiful memories she made with them as they were growing up. She would have everyone laughing the night away. She enjoyed the visits with her stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Myrna was a good wife, stepmother, grandmother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, and friend. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

A visitation for Myrna will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. With the funeral service following, Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM. A graveside service will occur Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Brookside Memorial Park.
