Nalson Yang passed away on the evening of July 6, 2020 at Memorial Hermann Hospital Southwest, Houston, Texas. He was 83 years old. Nalson was born in Pingtung, Taiwan on March 1, 1937 to Shiang-Shen Yang and Gui-Mei Lee. Nalson was married to Doris Yang for 57 years. They had four children together.
Nalson received his BA in Political Science from TungHai University, Taiwan. After earning his degree, Nalson started his professional career in banking but became an entrepreneur running his own international trading businesses early on. In his early business career, Nalson was resourceful to export goods from Taiwan to the Middle East market. He also was one of the pioneers to introduce scrap metal and scrap plastics reprocessing into the Taiwanese market. When his business was more established, Nalson encouraged his brothers to join him as partners to establish a plastics resin trading business in USA that later became the foundation for the entire Yang family in Houston. Nalson was a visionary and the pillar that provided stability for the family. He often said despite not reaching his goals in business, he was most proud to have brought his children and family to USA so they can enjoy the freedom and prosperity in this land of the opportunities for better futures. After a successful business career and ready for retirement, Nalson and Doris moved from Taiwan to Houston, Texas where most of their children and other family members reside.
Nalson loved to travel and enjoyed knowing vast different cultures around the world. Until the last three years when his health deteriorated that required him to be on kidney dialysis, he was still actively traveling to different countries each year. However, if there was one passion Nalson had in life, it was Golf…. Nalson was an avid golfer who routinely played three rounds a week even in his weak health conditions later in life. He just enjoyed the game. His philosophy toward his golf game was “One less stroke makes me happier and one less stroke makes me healthier”. It did not matter what score he shot. He always had a good day on the golf course.
Nalson is survived by his wife, Doris, and sons – Ken, Steve and Arnold, daughter – Sophie, daughters-in-law – Alice, Vicki and Lily, son-in-law – Billy and three grandchildren – Serena, Alex and Ryan. The Yang family would like to express their gratitude to Nalson’s other family members and friends for their enduring support during this difficult time.
