During her Junior year, she met and married her best friend and roommate's brother, Kirk Weinert. Following their wedding in 1965, they moved to Alexandria, Virginia where she discovered her love of cooking and for animals. She was well known for putting on a Tex-Mex feast for her new East Coast friends. She was a dedicated volunteer at the Friends of the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., being honored for her work by having a seal named 'Nancy' after her.
In 1970, the family moved back to Texas to Houston, where Nancy continued her love of community involvement, serving as a docent at the Bayou Bend Collection for 20 years, President of the Tanglewood Garden Club and President of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Houston Alumni Association. Nancy was a dedicated mother to Scott and Andrea, engaging in their school communities both at St. Francis Episcopal School and The Kinkaid School. Nancy loved to be with her dear friends from the Fabulous Needlepoint Group and enjoyed hosting friends and family at her second home at Lake Buchanan where her lifelong passion for cooking was always on full display.
