

Nell Mallery Kerr, 75, of Houston, TX went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on September 13, 2012, surrounded by her loving family following complications from surgery. Even though she will be missed, we know she is in a better place and we will see her again. We lost a wonderful lady and Heaven has gained a bright shining angel.
She was born November 20, 1936 in Houston, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, J. Robert Mallery and Eleanor Mallery Bova; and sister, Diane Bova Hester.
Nell is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Richard, son Richard Kerr, Jr, son Robert Kerr and wife Imelda, daughter Kristi Ritch and husband Mark, brother Harry Mallery and wife Josie, niece Marcelle Mallery and husband Joel Silverman, nephew Robert Mallery and wife Rachel, eight grandchildren Ryan, Mallery, Andy, Kayla, and Jessica Kerr, Matthew, Jason and Drew Ritch, and two grand-nephews Andrew and Ryan, and many other brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She attended Browning Elementary, Hamilton Jr. High and graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1954.
After retirement from HISD in 2001, she and Richard loved to travel. She was a member of the following travel groups: Go Club, Belles & Beauxs, Rambling Roses & Reagan Road Runners. Her favorite trips were 10 cruises, especially to Alaska and Hawaii, and vacations to Europe.
She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Lady Washington Chapter and Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA). Also, she was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Her favorite hobbies were doll collecting and attending live theater. She was a season ticket holder at TUTS and Alley Theater. She was a master seamstress (member of Janome Sewing Club) and avid book reader.
She loved being around her family and did so much for all. Her family knew if they needed anything, they could always rely on her. Her roles at home included wife, mother, Mimi, nurse, teacher, seamstress, advisor, counselor, etc. She led a Christian role model life that was an inspiration to all who knew her.
If desired, the family would like to request donations be made to the National M.S. Society, Lone Star, 8111 N. Stadium Drive, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77054, in memory of Diane Bova Hester and in honor of Imelda Kerr.
The family would like to thank Dr. Juan C. Barriga and the ICU nursing staff at Heights Select Specialty Hospital, Dr. Marcelle Mallery, Dr. Robert Mallery, and Laurie Froebel for their excellent care and love for her over the past months.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, September 17, 2012 in the chapel at Pat H, Foley Funeral Home, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. Memorial services will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in the chapel at Houston First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77024, with reception following. Interment - Private
