

The memorial service celebrating the life of Nellie R. Skeels, 97, will be held at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home, 1:00 p.m. Saturday June 26. Rev. Lyle Skeels will be officiating. She passed into glory following the recent discovery of cancer.
Born in 1923 to David C. Crawford and Rose A. Crawford, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. (Jack) Skeels in 1992. A resident of Houston for most of her life, she was a member of White Oak Baptist Church, The Faith Bible study class and active in its senior ministry. Nellie was a friend to neighbors in Oak Forest where she lived for 65 years. She was well known for the pies and cakes she would bake and give to neighbors, her doctors, and others who served her. She worked in the insurance industry and managed finances for Skeels Glass Service in Houston. Nellie was also a long time caregiver as Jack suffered with Alzheimer's. In her 70's and 80's she provided care services for the elderly shut-in.
Survivor's include her son: Lyle Skeels and wife, Fran of Tyler, Texas, her daughter: Rose Ann DeGeorge and husband, Giacomo of Houston. She was proud of her five grandchildren: Joseph DeGeorge, Teresa Wilson, Sherri Parker, Mary Egan and David Skeels and nine great-grandchildren. As stepmother to Jack's deceased adult son, Jim Runyon, she included his daughters Roslyn Thompson and Jackie Runyon, proudly counting their families as her own grand, great and great-great grandchildren. Included also, is her younger brother, William Crawford of Houston and many nieces and nephews in California and Texas.
