Nina McCarty Clary

December 13, 1964April 1, 2021

Nina Itamar Cortez McCarty Clary entered the gates of heaven on April 1, 2021. Nina first moved to Houston with her family in 1980, and put down deep roots. After graduating from Kingwood High School in 1982, she attended and received a bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX.

Her first career position after college was with the Houston Post, one of the city’s largest newspapers. After leaving the Post, where she was an advertising representative, she then earned her brokerage license and embarked on a very successful career in the insurance industry. She shattered the glass ceiling by being the first woman to become a member of the MetLife small business team and she excelled in that role until sacrificing her career in favor of raising her two children.

Living in the Kingwood area nearly all of her adult life, Nina was a member of the Atascocita Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon.

Nina was known as an outstanding person, a loving wife, mother, and sister, and the hub of the McCarty/Clary family. She hosted countless holiday gatherings at her family’s home, always treating the family to her wonderful cooking skills. She was a devoted daughter to her mother, Helsine Cortez McCarty, who still lives in the Kingwood Area. She was beloved by her many cousins and other relatives living across the world.

Nina is preceded in death by her father, Paul D. McCarty. She is survived by husband, Brian S. Clary, and the two loves of her life, her sons Jackson Clary and Garrett Clary, both high-school students. She is also survived by her brothers, David K. McCarty of Houston and Nael A. McCarty of Atlanta, and her nieces and nephews, Karen and Helen McCarty and Dale, Alex, and Joseph McCarty. A Memorial Service will be held at Atascocita Presbyterian Church at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 10. The service will also be live-streamed for those who cannot attend. Oh, Nina. You’re my partner in dog crimes! You will be dearly missed. I so cherish all the doggie messages we shared! You always make me smile with that big HEART of yours! Please give hugs and kisses to all of our doggies in heaven. I know you will watch over Brian, the boys and your babies. 💜

In celebration of your life, we made a donation to ThisIsHouston dog rescue in Kingwood. You would love the work Laura Jean and Tom do to save our local dogs. 🐕

I love this photo you took celebrating doggy birthdays. You’re the BEST! We have such great memories of your acts of kindness and that giggle of yours

I met Nina when we both worked at MetLife. She and Brian always welcomed me into their home when I came to Houston on business. We’ve stayed in touch all of these years and I am deeply saddened to hear about her death. She was one of the kindest, sweetest, most beautiful inside and out women I’ve ever had the privilege to call my friend. Sending my deepest sympathies to Brian, Jackson, Garrett and her family💔
