Noel M. Rando, Sr. passed away on December 31, 2019. He was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and has resided in Houston, Texas since 1972. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Lois after 56 years of marriage and his youngest son Glenn. He is survived by his three sons & wives, Noel Jr. & Sue Ann Rando, Louis & Kim Rando, and Gary Rando; and grandchildren Michael Rando, Melanie (& Blake Campbell), Christopher (& Andrea Rando), Kelsey (& Jayson Hanky), Andrew (& Cassidy Rando), Nicholas Rando, and Lauren Rando; and great grandchildren Hudson Campbell, Landon Campbell, Catherine Rando, and Jude Rando.
Noel graduated as valedictorian of his high school class and received a four year scholarship to Tulane University where he received his BBA in Accounting. He joined Shell Oil Co in 1955 in Marketing Accounting and in 1964 joined Information and Computer Services where he remained until his retirement in 1990. He had assignments in New Orleans, Menlo Park, Orlando, Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia and Houston. During his overseas assignment, he and Lois travelled the world.
He was a member of the Men’s Club, ALPS and the Fifty Plus Group at St. John Vianney, the Wednesday Coffee Alumni, The I&CS Alumni, the Greater Houston Alumni and the Xmas Alumni group of Shell Oil. Noel became a Volunteer Income tax consultant in the mid nineties and really enjoyed helping taxpayers for 25 years. He prepared many returns for family and friends and all he ever expected was a smile and a thank you. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of his sub-division for roughly 20 years and devoted many hours of his time to this endeavor. He was a dedicated family man and every Saturday night after church services, he gathered the family at one of the local restaurants where they were able to visit and be brought up to date on the happenings of the previous week. He was always willing to help a friend and didn’t have the word “no” in his vocabulary. He had a great sense of humor and was truly a people person. He was known to keep in touch with his fellow employees at Shell, by calling them on their birthday and even after retirement, he continued this endeavor. He was well liked by his many friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 8, 2020 from 5pm to 7pm at Memorial Oaks, I-10 @ Eldridge for relatives and friends and will include a Rosary at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday January 9, 2020 at St. John Vianney at 10:30am, officiated by the Rev Troy Gately, with a reception immediately following in St. Jude Hall. The Graveside burial is reserved for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. John Vianney Bereavement Support Ministry.
