

Norma Jean Bacho, 85, of Sugar Land, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 24, 2018. She was born June 13, 1933 to Ned and Mary Yontz of San Jose, Illinois. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up on a Midwest farm, helping with chores, cheerleading, playing sports with her small town friends.
She graduated from San Jose High School in 1951 then attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois and later to the University of Iowa where she met Andrew B. Bacho, Jr. They married February 4, 1955 after completion of Andy’s Masters in Geology. After several relocations around the country, Andy and Norma Jean eventually settled in the Houston area and lived out their remaining years in Sugar Land, Texas.
Norma was a dedicated wife and mother. Participated in the Fort Bend Republican Club and active many years in the Women’s Houston Geological Auxiliary. After several years of volunteer work for Congressman Bill Archer, she was employed as staff assistant at his Houston Congressional District office. Norma Jean enjoyed projects such as fundraising efforts to financially restore the Mamie George Library in Fort Bend County. She was an active member of the Sugar Creek Country Club and her church family at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church. Norma Jean had a sweet sense of humor, loved helping and being with others, had an affection for dogs, and loved her country. She was a very charitable, bright, compassionate, and caring person whose light will be dearly missed.
Norma Jean is survived by her children, daughter, Vanessa with her husband Keevan Timm, her son, Vincent Bacho, her grandchildren, Spencer Cook, Tracey with her husband Gerald Shiflet, and her greatgrandchildren, Shane and Kylee Shiflet.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Bacho, Jr.; her parents, Ned and Mary Yontz; her siblings, Ivan Yontz of Pekin, Illinois, Cleo Yontz of Bloomington, Illinois and Vera Mae Alexander of Delavan, Illinois.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 2:00 in the afternoon at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church, 431 Eldridge Road, Sugar Land, Texas 77478. The family appreciates those who cared for her over the duration of her illness and who provided much love and compassion - doctors, precious caregivers, volunteers, Vantage Hospice, and most especially her family of friends.
