Norma was born in Dallas, Tx and moved to Houston in the late 1950s. She was a member of the Richmond Plaza Baptist Church (Bellaire Central Baptist Church), Bellaire, TX, and was very active in Sunday School and singing in the choir. She loved teaching Vacation Bible School and chaperoning the youth on church trips.
She was highly motivated, an excellent bowler, loved her friends, her church, and the Lord. She was employed by Foley’s-Sharpstown from 1963 until the store was closed after being sold to Macy’s in the late 1990s. She worked in the China and Silverware Dept. and was well known and well respected for her knowledge of the products, for her excellent customer service, and by her peers and customers. She was the recipient of numerous sales awards through the years.
Norma enjoyed traveling with her sister, Margie, and many of her family and friends. They traveled domestically and internationally. She would research their travel destinations and would make sure they visited all the interesting sites the area had to offer.
She was the life of the party and was known for her love of family and friends. She always had a smile on her face, had a contagious laugh, and enjoyed meeting new people and visiting new places. She enjoyed talking about all her adventures to anyone that would listen.
The last 2 years were difficult as her health began to decline. Being the strong-willed woman that she was, she tackled each of her issues with the will to fight and the will to win. She is a cancer survivor, was blind in her final year, suffered a broken hip and femur, and was diagnosed with early dementia. The family would like to thank the staff of the Clarewood House and the staff on the 2nd floor at the Villages of Meyerland, as they assisted her through the final days of her fun-filled life.
Visitation will be held at the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home (13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX) on Thursday, October 12, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with services on Friday, October 13, at 10:00 AM in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be officiated by her oldest grandson, Ryan Orbin. Pallbearers are grandsons Brian Polcar, Travis Dobbs and Daniel Norman, nephews Michael Howard, Kevin Kirk and Kirk Covert. Honorary pallbearers are Sean Donnell, Colin, Austin, Devin, and Logan Bear.
