Norman was born at home to Sam and Maggie Walters on September 3, 1928, in Hot Springs Arkansas. He was welcomed to Heaven on Nov. 14, 2025. He was ninety-seven years old. He was raised in a Pentecostal Church, but Rev. Nathan Price welcomed him into the Church of the Nazarene fellowship in 1962. He remained a loyal and active Nazarene for over 60 Years.
Norman graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1946 and married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Hull, in 1948.
His only child, Norma Jean, was born in 1949. The three of them moved to Little Rock, Arkansas in 1954 where he became a Sales Manager for the Jewell Tea Co. Then to Oklahoma City in 1957 where he became a Sales Manager for General Foods and Johnson & Johnson. Their last move was to Houston, Texas in 1963 when he was promoted to District Sales manager. In 1968 he joined Duo Fast of Texas, at the invitation of his good friend C. P. Conaway, as a salesman and managerial consultant. He remained there until his retirement as CEO. They welcomed to the family a son-in-law, Jim Atkins, in 1977
His ministry at Living Word Church was helping people become Christlike Disciples. He did this though many roles and positions he held at the church, but his great passion was for the Outreach Sundy School Class he and Phyllis founded in 1974. They poured their lives unto countless people in countless ways by teaching the “Way” and showing how a Christlike Disciple should live their lives. Norman lived out his Chistian testimony in the way he lived every day of his life.
Outside of church he loved to “go on vacation”, primarily with friends and family. He loved to fish, especially on Lake Ouachita near his home town and to hunt birds, which he did all over the world. He was an avid golfer and played almost every week when the temperature was right until he was 95.
His competitive side came out in his business life and especially when playing or managing soft ball. Also, while playing any kind of game, including his beloved Sequence. Norman considered himself "blessed by God” and winner in life. He did his best to help and encourage others to become winners in life as well.
He is survived by his daughter Norma Jean and husband Jim, six nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of great friends.
The family would like to thank all of those who helped with his care and those who visited him while he was in the various care facilities during the last seven months of his life.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that you make contributions to the Walters Memorial fund at Living Word Nazarene Church, Houston Texas
