Odelia Lois Robinson-Morris, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, entered into eternal rest on November 16, 2024. Born on September 21, 1950, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, she was the cherished daughter of Johnnie and Rosie Robinson.
Odelia’s life was one of resilience, love, and purpose. A graduate of Marion High School, she was among the first students to complete their education at a desegregated school, a testament to her courage and determination. After moving to California, Odelia began her career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) before dedicating herself fully to her most important role: raising her six children with love and faith.
In November of 1983 she met Odell Morris and in her own words said it was “love at first sight”. The two were married on February 10, 1989, in Los Angeles, California. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and a deep sense of togetherness.
Faith was a guiding light for Odelia, and she instilled strong family values and healthy morals in her children. She was known for her stern yet loving nature, her sharp wit, and her unapologetically opinionated spirit. She encouraged her family to rise to challenges, often using her unique brand of “reverse psychology” to inspire them to prove her wrong in the best possible ways.
Odelia was also a creative soul. She expressed her talents through cooking—crafting meals rich with her Southern roots and love—and sewing, creating beautiful clothes and Halloween costumes for her family. She loved listening to blues music, dancing and even skating. She was a gifted storyteller, captivating those around her with vivid and engaging tales.
She will forever be remembered for her favorite sayings, which reflected her no-nonsense yet humorous approach to life:
“I may laugh and joke, but I don’t play.”
“Oh, you got an attitude. I can get one better.”
Odelia is survived by her devoted husband, Odell; her six children, Joseph (born 1971), Shaundrell (1975), Edward (1980), Javonne (1982), Ashley (1987), and Timothy (1988); and 10 grandchildren who were her pride and joy.
Odelia was preceded in death by her mother Rosie Robinson, her father Johnnie Robinson and her siblings Dorothy, James, Joseph, Barbara, Gwendolyn, Johnnie, Ronald, Bobby, Janice, Jeffrey and Fabiola. Her surviving siblings are Edna, Charles, Billy and Lozina.
Odelia Lois Robinson-Morris will be remembered as a woman of faith, courage, and unrelenting love. She taught her family the value of standing strong, speaking truth, and living with purpose. Her voice, her stories, and her love will echo in their hearts forever.
A visitation for Odelia will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088.
