Olga Rose Eldridge

Olga Rose Eldridge, age 79, was born in Pineville, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irving A. Eldridge and Willie May Eldridge; her sister, Jeanette Camp; her brother, Edmond Eldridge; and her beloved “Mama Rose.”

Olga leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her life and memory. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Irvine E. Epps; niece, Regina Camp (Freddie); great-nephews, Delmarco Chambers (Lorry) and Leo Butler; great-niece, Felicia “Lisa” Butler; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Jasmine, Ra'Shawnda, Jonathan, Sarah, Haley, Juan, Jose, Jenesis, and Savannah; great-great-great-nephews, Major Brothers and Alexander Degrate Chambers; niece-in-law, Felicia Chambers; and her dear friend, Stephanie Ford, and family.

Education & Career

Olga graduated from Peabody High School in 1965. Following high school, she pursued vocational training in stenography through the Manpower Development and Training Act (MDTA) and graduated on February 23, 1968.

On August 6, 1968, Olga began her professional career with the Bell System, where she dedicated 18 years of service before transitioning to a new chapter on August 8, 1986.

With a desire to pursue a career in education, Olga attended Southern University and later earned her Bachelor's degree in Education from Texas Southern University, where she graduated with honors on May 16, 1987.

Immediately following graduation, Olga began teaching with the Houston Independent School District (HISD) at Turner Elementary School. She later continued her career with the Alief Independent School District (Alief ISD), serving students at Mahanay Elementary, Doug Smith Elementary, Rees Elementary, Outley Elementary, and Youngblood Intermediate.

Her dedication to students extended beyond the classroom. Olga also served as a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center and devoted her summers to helping students learn and grow through the YEP program at Texas Southern University.

A Life Remembered

Olga possessed a natural curiosity and genuine interest in the world around her. She enjoyed web browsing and researching historical and community events. She also loved listening to music, attending concerts, singing, and watching classic movies.

Olga Rose Eldridge lived a life marked by education, perseverance, curiosity, and service. From her years with the Bell System to the classrooms where she taught, the students she tutored, and the young people she encouraged through the YEP program, Olga's life touched generations.

Her family will remember her for her accomplishments, the memories and knowledge she shared, her meticulous record-keeping, and the love she leaves behind. Her legacy will continue through her family, her students, and all those whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
