

Olga Mericas died Sept. 23, 2010 in Houston,TX. Survived by her son Dean Mericas and wife Elizabeth; daughter Marianthe Leach and husband Colin; son Alex Mericas and wife Caroline; grandchildren Dylan and Sian Leach and Liz and Chris Mericas; her sister Nina Zirps and husband Chris; sister-in-law Patricia Comninel; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by husband Evan Mericas, and siblings Strati and wife Helen, Ann, John, Dean and wife Dorothy, and Christopher Comninel.
Born May 7th, 1924 to George and Marianthe Comninel in NYC, N.Y. Olga was baptized in the Greek Orthodox Church. After graduating high school, Olga worked as a bookkeeper and attended evening classes at an art school and at a local university. She found a job with Art Lore Inc. that she loved, moving from bookkeeper into the art gallery.
Olga met Evan Mericas, the cousin of her best friend Nikki Mericas Addams, at a church dance. It was love at first sight. Olga married Evan in 1950, and they shared 46 years together.
She quit working in 1951 when her first child was born. She moved with Evan to Venezuela, then Pittsburg, PA and then New Orleans, LA in 1965 where she eventually became a sales rep. for Art Lore Inc. Olga loved gardening; volunteered in the Cub Scouts and Brownies; was a member of the Aurora Country Club; was very active and served as President in the Reserve Officers Association Ladies Club; was very active in the New Comers Club of N.O. and a ladies investment club; was an excellent cook and party hostess; and had a passion for Bridge. In 1999 Olga moved to Houston, TX.
Funeral Service will be at 12:30pm Saturday Oct 2nd at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. Graveside service will be at the Houston National Cemetery at 10am on Monday Oct 4th.
