Orlando Alberto Suarez was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 18, 2020 at the age of 89. He was born in Rincon Havana, Cuba on February 15, 1931 as the only child to the late Ramon Alberto Suarez and Silveria Mercedes Suarez.
On January 21, 1969, Orlando fled from Cuba to Miami where he became an active member of la Iglesia Victoria. After spending several years in Miami, he relocated to Houston, the city he called home for the
last 44 years.
Orlando attended El Tabernaculo church for the majority of his life in Houston and later transitioned to Templo Gethsemani until he could no longer attend due to his health conditions. Orlando enjoyed travelling as well as discussing politics and Cuban history. His favorite work memories were from his time at the Hotel Nacional in Cuba. This is a prominent hotel in Havana where many famous people frequented. Orlando had countless stories of special encounters with celebrities such as Winston Churchill, former Prime Minister of the UK, Libertad Lamarque, an Argentine actress and singer, Arturo de Cordova and many more. He spent the latter part of his life working for San Jacinto College until his retirement. Orlando enjoyed special traditions including a pig roast on Christmas Eve and countless hours of playing dominos. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, honesty and a very hard worker who loved God and his family.
He is survived by his wife Raquel Suarez, daughter Beatriz Suarez, daughter Soraya Sanabria and her husband Raul, daughter Odalys Fernandez and her husband Guillermo, daughter Belkis Benitez, and son
Jafet Suarez and his wife Suzanne. Orlando also leaves behind eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Orlando Alberto Suárez partió con el Señor el Viernes 18 de Septiembre del 2020 a la edad de 89 años. Nació en Rincón de La Habana, Cuba el 15 de Febrero del 1931 como hijo único de los difuntos Ramón Alberto Suárez y Silveria Mercedes Suárez.
En el 21 de Enero del 1969, Orlando se exilió de Cuba a Miami, donde fue miembro activo de la Iglesia Victoria. Después de pasar varios años en Miami, se mudó a Houston, la ciudad a la cual llamó su hogar
durante los últimos 44 años.
Orlando asistió a la iglesia El Tabernáculo durante la mayor parte de su vida en Houston y luego hizo
la transición al Templo Gethsemani hasta que ya no pudo asistir debido a sus condiciones de salud. Orlando disfrutaba viajar y hablar sobre la política e historia de Cuba. Le sobreviven su esposa Raquel Suarez, su hija Beatriz Suarez, su hija Soraya Sanabria y su esposo Raúl, su hija Odalys Fernandez y su esposo Guillermo, su hija Belkis Benitez y su hijo Jafet Suarez y su esposa Suzanne. Orlando deja ocho nietos y ocho bisnietos.
