Oscar Salinas was called to his heavenly home early Wednesday morning, January 13, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mauro and Paula Salinas, his brothers, Armando and Domingo Salinas; and his beloved children Lonnie Salinas and Cindy Marie Steedman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Evangeline (Angie) Reyna Salinas; daughters Sylvia Salinas Stottlemyer and husband, Brian; Becky Salinas O’Bannon and husband, Jack; son-in-law John Steedman; grandchildren Cory Stottlemyer and husband, Ben Cromer; Ashley O’Bannon McClain and husband, Bryan; Jacob Steedman and wife, Jordan; Zachary Steedman and wife, Kelsey; great grandchildren Judah Steedman, Henry Steedman, and Sophie Marie Steedman. Oscar is also survived by his brothers Ernest Salinas and Rudy Salinas and wife, Stella, and many nieces, nephews, and other family members. Born on October 24, 1929 in Yorktown, Texas, in Dewitt County, Oscar was a lifelong resident of Houston, Texas. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, from 1948-1955, in the 82nd Airborne Division, training as a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict. Oscar began his career as a produce manager with the Weingarten supermarket chain and ended his career with H.E.B. in 1995. He was a longtime member of Christian Temple Assembly of God Church (now CT Church), serving as a Sunday School teacher and deacon for 35 years. He and his wife’s desire and vision to minister to the Hispanic community was realized when a Spanish-speaking only Sunday School class was formed, led by him and Angie for 15 years. The small class of 25 has now grown over the years to a 300+ member church. He loved fishing, singing, reading, and tending to his vegetable garden. First and foremost in his life was his love of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Every stranger he met heard this personal testimony of how 60 years ago God changed his life forever. He lived his life as a devoted and loving husband and father; family was everything to him.
The chapel service will be held Tuesday, January 19, at 11:00AM at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo, 4136 Broadway St., Houston, Texas 77087.
A graveside service will follow at Forest Park East in Webster, Texas.
