Bill was born on February 2, 1929, in Kaplan, Louisiana, the youngest of nine children born to Ovelton Sr. and Delphine Dailey. He graduated from Kaplan High School and, shortly thereafter, answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served for 10 years, a chapter of his life that he greatly valued and embraced. Being a Marine was a source of pride, and the discipline, dedication, and commitment of his military service remained an important part throughout his life.
During a special military assignment in Beaumont, Texas, Bill met Patricia Douglas, the love of his life. Their meeting began a wonderful journey together. They were married on March 29, 1953, and shared 68 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family, and devotion to one another. Their time together continued until Pat's passing in 2021.
Bill was a devoted father to his three children, Debbie, Kim, and Gary Keith. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pat; his daughter, Debbie; his son, Gary Keith; and his grandson, Keith Labhart. He leaves behind his daughter, Kim and her husband Allen Pere, along with cherished family members and friends whose lives were enriched by his love and presence.
Those who knew Bill will remember him for his attention to detail, his patience, and his calm and loving nature. He approached life with thoughtfulness and quiet strength, and his gentle demeanor and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
His Catholic faith was an important part of his life. Bill was an active member of Saint Jerome Catholic Church, where he found fellowship and strength in his faith.
At 97 years of age, Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, family, and service. He will be remembered not only for the life he lived but also for the kindness, patience, and love he shared with those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he gave will remain in the hearts of his family and all who know him.
May he rest in the peace and eternal love of his Lord.
